Systemic and Systematic Changes Needed in Psychology and Family Law

Speaker: Gitu Bhatia, Psy.D

Dr. Bhatia will summarize the American Psychological Association’s apology for its role in the perpetuation of racism. The acceptance of Whiteness as the norm continues to influence many conceptual models and theoretical frameworks within contemporary psychology, as well as research and practice. Dr. Bhatia will provide a framework to question the assumptions in psychology and family law to be culturally competent.

Many people today are forming family units of three or more adults. The panelists will discuss polyamory, its definition, and how best to protect the interests of all family members. They also will discuss the gender spectrum and rights of parents and children that are transgender or non-binary.
